What LIPÉ swimwear is made from
Every piece is crafted from either a recycled eco blend print fabric or REPREVE® fabric blended with spandex, cut for a sculpted fit and made in small batches. Here is what that means.
REPREVE®
REPREVE is a recycled fibre brand. Its nylon is "made with 100%* post-industrial nylon yarn waste": offcuts and leftovers from making nylon, recovered and spun into new fibre instead of being thrown away. REPREVE calls it "certified and traceable circular nylon". REPREVE® offers built-in UPF sun protection, chlorine resistance and body-temperature regulation, with stretch and recovery that holds its shape. REPREVE pieces carry the REPREVE label on their swing tag.
ECONYL®
Our recycled eco blend is ECONYL® regenerated nylon. It's used for our DALMA and HERRERA prints, and for ALBE and MACKENZIE in ONYX. ECONYL® comes from Aquafil, which describes it as "a premium nylon that comes from different types of nylon waste", recovered from waste "such as carpets, fishing nets, and industrial plastics". Aquafil says it offers "the same high-quality features as traditional nylon 6" and is "recyclable multiple times".
Designed in Cape Town, made in Guangzhou
LIPÉ was conceptualised in Saigon in 2014 and sampled in Bali, then began production in Cape Town in 2017, where Seasons 1 to 8 were designed, patterned and made. Since 2024 our pieces have been made in Guangzhou, China, for tighter quality control and more colourways. Every pattern and design is still created in Cape Town, and every order is dispatched from our Cape Town warehouse.
Making it last
A little care keeps a LIPÉ piece in shape for longer: rinse after every swim, hand wash in cold water and dry flat in the shade. The full guide is on our care page.
