The hand made range was patterned, cut and created by woman's seamstress organisations in Ottery, Cape Town. These organisations strive in creating employment and leadership opportunities that in turn further entrepreneurship, training and education in the Cape Flats communities.
The BORNEO palm print was captured on the coast of Mabul Island, a remote island in the Sabah province of South Eastern Borneo, Malaysia. The island has no electricity or fresh running water but is surrounded by crystal clear waters, exotic coral reefs and an abundance or marine life. It is the stop off location en route to Sipadan, a world renown and exclusive dive spot.
The Borneo print was the initial inspiration behind LIPÉ. The contrast of the wavering palms against blue skies became the symbol of simplistic design and was the print used to create our first swimwear piece in 2015.
